Austin Aaron took home the male High Flyer of the Week award. Both played crucial roles in their team's performances on opening weekend, getting their seasons off to a strong start.
Tylah Yeomans led the way for the Wheeling Volleyball team at their opening tournament at the University of West Florida. Over the four games, Yeomans recorded 63 kills and 41 digs while hitting the ball at a .321 clip in the four games played. Yeomans set a new career-high in the game against Central Missouri, when she had 21 kills, and recorded at least 12 kills in each of the four matches. She currently has seven less kills than she had all last season and got off on the right track to begin 2022. She will be looked to as a leader for this team and hopes to continue the success in the coming weeks.
Austin Aaron got the start in net in the team's opener against Cedarville and was able to keep his team in the game against a tough opponent. Aaron would face 14 shots on the night, with five of those landing on net. He made three saves on those five shots and finished with a .600 save percentage while playing the full 90 minutes in net. Aaron is competing with two of his teammates for time in net this season and the strong start gives him a leg up as the team begins Mountain East Conference (MEC) play this week.
The Wheeling University Cardinal High Flyer of the Week is a weekly award given out by the Wheeling University Athletic Department to honor the top male and female athletes from each week of competition. The nominees are chosen by the Sports Information Director and then voted upon by members of Athletic Administration.
The next Wheeling University Athletic Event will see the Men's Soccer team hit the road for their MEC opener when they take on Notre Dame College at 4 PM.
