Wheeling Football to host Friday Night Lights Camp

Wheeling, W. Va. - With less than a month to go before their reporting date, the Wheeling University Football team is gearing up for their fourth season competing in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) in 2023. Before they get things rolling, they will be hosting one more camp for high school athletes on Friday, July 15th, with their Friday Night Lights camp. It will be an opportunity for high school players to show off their skills under the lights at Bishop Schmitt field in front of Wheeling University coaches.

The day will begin with registration from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM in the Alma Grace McDonough Center lobby. Then, there will be a camp welcome in the home stands of Bishop Schmitt Field where players will get a chance to meet with the Wheeling University coaches and staff. Practice will begin with a dynamic warm up and stretching, followed by combine testing, agility stations, offensive skill development, and defensive skill development. The camp will conclude with 1 on 1 competitions to wrap up the night.

The camp will be held at Bishop Schmitt Field unless inclement weather is in the forecast. If the Weather hits before the start of the camp a message will be sent out for the students to report to the Highlands Sports Complex (225 McCormick Wy. Triadelphia, PA. 26059). Athletes who are coming to the camp should bring a helmet, cleats, shorts, and a water bottle. Quarterbacks are also asked to bring a ball with them to use during the camp.

Earlier in the summer, the team hosted their JR Day Skill Showcase back on May 22nd, 2021 and had over 200 student-athletes and their families come out to campus. Potential recruits got to meet with coaches and take pictures in front of the Wheeling backdrop while showing off their skills. This camp will be a very similar set-up with recruits getting a chance to see what the Wheeling University football program is all about. To register for the Wheeling Football Friday Night Lights click HERE. Pre-registration costs $20 and walk-ups are $30. You can also ask about special group rates for teams that have five or more athletes coming to the camp. If you have any questions, reach out to Wheeling University Football recruiting coordinator and offensive line coach Jason Emerich at jemerich@wheeling.edu.

The Wheeling University Football team reports to camp on Saturday, August 6th as they gear up for the season opener on Saturday, September 1st, against Seton Hill.
