Wheeling, W. Va. - It has been an active few weeks for the Wheeling University Football team as several of their players have been highlighted as Players to Watch in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. The NFL Draft Diamonds have previously interviewed running back Sy Alli, cornerback Rich White III, wide receiver Lowell Patron, and linebacker Jason Simon, talking about their prospects and what NFL teams can expect to see from them. On Wednesday night, another Cardinal, hoping to make his dreams of an NFL career come true, joined the list as defensive lineman Brandon Munoz sat down with Jimmy Williams, of NFL Draft Diamonds.
Munoz has been a force to be reckoned with at defensive end for the Cardinals and was part of the inaugural 2018 class that began the program. He holds five program records over his first four seasons with the team, including career tackles for loss (40.0), tackle for loss yards (158), sacks (18.0), sack yardage (112), Fumble Recoveries (4), and Forced Fumbles (7). He has been named an All-MEC honoree in each of his three seasons that the team has been Mountain East Conference (MEC) affiliated, earning All-MEC Honorable Mention in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Munoz continued his successful Cardinals career in 2021, finishing with a career-best 7.0 sacks and 11.0 total tackles for loss, leading the team in both categories. He finished sixth on the team with 43.0 total tackles, 32 solo and 11 assisted, while forcing a team-high three fumbles during the year. He finished in a tie for ninth in the MEC with his 7.0 sacks and tied for eighth with 6.0 solo sacks. He was also tied for sixth in the conference with his three forced fumbles, sitting two behind the conference leaders. Munoz is returning for his fifth year in a Cardinals uniform in 2022 and looks to build upon what has already been an impressive resume.
Munoz told NFL Draft Diamonds that football is a way for him to give back to those who have given him so much. He currently does a lot of service projects in and around the Pittsburgh and Wheeling area and is excited about the opportunity that football may give him to be able to give back to those who have helped him so much.
"I started football when I was young," said Munoz. "I went to a nice private school that helped me get into college. Football has opened many doors, not only allowing me to get an education, but also giving me the possibility of making a living out of it and giving back to my family."
