Wheeling, W. Va. - As the summer months roll on, all of Wheeling's varsity sports programs are out on the road recruiting the next generation of Cardinals talent that will be in Wheeling. Amongst all the recruiting trips, one Wheeling Football coach is making his way to Baltimore, Maryland to represent Wheeling football as one of 40+ speakers in one of the largest clinics in the region. Offensive Coordinator Nemo Washington will be speaking at the Southeast Coaches Clinic, hosted by Dundalk Football, just weeks after being named to the FootballScoop Top 125 Minority Watch List/Rising Stars.
Washington has been responsible for helping Head Coach Zac Bruney and the Wheeling Football team build one of the most dominant ground games in the MEC over the last two seasons. Under his leadership, the offense has averaged 20+ points per game in each of the last two seasons while throwing for over 150 yards per game in each of those last two years. Washington not only serves as the team's offensive coordinator but works extensively with the Cardinals' Quarterbacking group. Under his watch in 2022, he helped three quarterbacks combine to throw for 2,220 yards while supplementing the top run game in the MEC.
The topic that he will be speaking on at the Southeast Coach's Clinic will be Quarterback play and how Wheeling wants their athletes to be both on and off the field. For Washington, it is a tremendous honor to be invited to speak at the event and a chance for him to help continue to promote Wheeling University Football.
"It's an honor to be speaking on behalf of Wheeling University representing our great university and our Head Coach Zac Bruney," said Washington. "Once I was asked to participate, I was humbled by the opportunity and will be talking about how we want our guys to be both on and off the field as a quarterback. I'm just one of the speakers, and there are some great speakers who are more qualified than me, so it's an honor to be speaking alongside them."
The Southeast Coach's Clinic will be held on Saturday, June 18th, at Dundalk High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Washington will be one of four coaches from the Mountain East Conference (MEC) speaking at the event as he represents a growing Cardinals Football program.
