Urs Falls Just Shy of PR as Men’s Golf Closes Spring Season

Wheeling, W. Va. – The Wheeling University Men's Golf team wrapped up their spring season on Tuesday with round two of the Oglebay Invitational. As a team, the Cardinals finished 11th in the field, but put together one of their best rounds of the season to head into the off-season with momentum on their side.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was sophomore Yadhu Urs, who turned in his second under par score of the year and first of the team's spring season. Urs began the round on hole 11 and put together his best back nine performance of the spring. He scored three birdies on the nine holes and finished shooting three under par to start his day. As he moved to the front nine, he hit pars on the first three holes before hitting his only two bogeys of the day. However, because of his success on the back nine it didn't shake Urs as he finished the day hitting par on every hole to finish at -1. Urs finished the event tied for 13th overall and finished one stroke shy of his PR of 68 that he set back in the fall.

The Cardinals had three total golfers finish with a sub-80 score as  Austin Panhorst and Hunter Travis each hit the mark. Panhorst was Wheeling's second leading golfer on the day, shooting a 78 as he shot consistently throughout the two-day event. With three holes remaining, Panhorst was sitting at +9 for the round. However, he bounced back with a pair and back-to-back birdies to drop two strokes off his score to end the day. He finished the day with three total birdies, and finished 53rd overall. Hunter Travis finished the tournament strong posting a 79 in round three and finishing 64th overall. He also hit a late birdie on hole 10 that dropped his score to the under 80 mark.

The Cardinals two freshman rounded out the field as Alex Parker and Blake Ring-Fish each shooting a mid-80 round. Parker finished with an 86 on the day, with his success coming on the front nine. He shot +5 on holes 1-9 as he finished one of his bestt events of his collegiate career so far. Ring-Fish finished one stroke behind him shooting an 87 on the final day. He shot his first birdie of the event on hole eight and shot + single digits in both the front and back nine. As a team, the Cardinals shot 925 and were just 10 strokes back of being in the events top 10.

The Wheeling Men's Golf team now heads into the off-season as they look to grow off the momentum they gained from this final Invitational.
