Wheeling, W. Va. – Over the weekend, the NCAA Announced the teams and Individuals who would be competing in the 2022 NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships. The Wheeling University Men's Golf team will be represented as sophomore
Yadhu Urs was picked as one of the top individuals in the region to play in the event. Urs earned the second seed out of the individual qualifiers that will make the trip to Victor, New York and the Ravenswood Golf Club from May 5th – May 7th.
Urs has been one of the top golfers not only for the Cardinals, but in the entire Mountain East Conference. He earned All-MEC First Team Honors for the first time in his career this season and was a top 10 finisher in both the MEC Championship in the fall as well as the 2022 MEC Spring Classic in March. Urs has been the leader for this young Cardinals team this season, with an average round score of 75.3 this season. He has not shot over 80 in any of his rounds in the fall or in the spring. He finished tied for ninth in the fall MEC Championship with a combined score of 231 in the three round event, and followed that up with a sixth place finish at the MEC Spring Classic with a combined score of 150 over two rounds of play.
In his most recent outing, Urs competed against some of the best that the region has to offer at the Oglebay Invitational. He finished 13th overall with a combined three day score of 213, shooting 75 or under in all three rounds. However, his best performance came in round three when he finished two strokes shy of his PR, shooting a 69 on the day. He began the round at hole 11 and got off to one of the hottest starts of the tournament with three straight pars followed by back-to-back Birdies to move to -3 under par. He hit two Bogeys on the front nine, but balanced it out with a birdie on hole eight to keep him under par for the day. He would finish at -1 for the day and moved into the top 15 of the event.
Urs joins a group of three MEC Men's Golf teams and two individuals that will make the trip up to Victor, New York. The Atlantic Regional tournament will run from May 5th to May 7th at the Ravenswood Golf Club. The Men's Golf teams from West Liberty, Davis & Elkins, and Charleston as well as Concord's Noah Clark are making the trip. The top three teams and top two individuals not from a team in each region will then move on to the NCAA Nationals May 16th through the 20th in Detroit, Michigan.
Yadhu Urs will make the trip up to Detroit on Thursday, May 5th, for the opening round of the Regional tournament.
