Wheeling, W. Va. - The regular season wrapped up for Volleyball this past week and the Mountain East Conference (MEC) released their final Volleyball Players of the Week on Tuesday. The Wheeling University Volleyball team ended the regular season with a bang, earning their fifth Player of the Week award of the 2022 season. Junior Outside Hitter Tylah Yeomans took home the award after having a big week leading the Cardinals to a 2-0 record against Alderson Broaddus and West Liberty.
It was a big week for Yeomans as she combined for 36 kills between the two matches, while hitting .369 to end the regular season. She tied her season high with 21 kills against West Liberty in the regular season finale and added 15 kills in the win against Alderson Broaddus earlier in the week. The effort brings her season total to 382 on the season and has her sitting with the third most kills in the MEC this season. She is averaging 3.90 kills/set as she continues to hit the ball well and be the leader of the Cardinals offense.
In that regular season finale, Yeomans would tie her season-high with 21 kills and hit .277 as she led her team to a 3-1 victory over the rival Hilltoppers. Yeoman's night got started right away as she slammed down six kills in set one and helped lead her team to a 25-17 set victory and a 1-0 lead in the match. She continued her hot run in sets two and three, finishing with five and six kills respectively as the Cardinals went 2-1 in those sets. Her final set saw her finish with just three kills, but the Cardinals were able to wrap up the 3-1 victory to end the regular season on a high note.
For Yeomans, it is the second time this season that she has been named the MEC Offensive Player of the Week and marks the fifth time that a Wheeling University Volleyball player has been recognized with the award. For the Wheeling University Athletic Department, it is the 11th time this season that a student-athlete has been named an MEC Player of the Week presented by The Healthplan. Last week, Volleyball's Karly Niesen won Volleyball's Offensive Player of the Week and Football's Matt Greenwood was named the MEC Special Teams Player of the Week.
The next Wheeling University Athletic event will be on Thursday, November 10th when the Wheeling University Volleyball team opens up MEC Tournament play against #4 seeded Glenville State with tip-off at 2:30 PM.
