Banks’s Top 20 Finish Paces Men’s Swimming at Day One of Oberlin Invitational

Oberlin, OH. - Although they entered the Oberlin College Invitational with just two swimmers on their roster, the Wheeling University Men's Swimming team was looking to make an impact in the pool. They sit in 11th after day one of competition but managed to get one swimmer to the finals of day one in the 500 Yard Freestyle. It was one top 20 finish for the Cardinals on the day, but it helped show that they can still see individual success in the pool despite small numbers on the team.

That finals qualifier was junior Ethan Banks, who qualified in the 500 Yard Freestyle as he got back to swimming his normal distance events. In the preliminary events that morning, He came out strong putting up a time of 5:07.00 to earn a spot in the C Finals during the evening races. After preparing throughout the day, Banks came back even stronger in the nightcap, lowering his time by three seconds. He finished 19th overall in the field with a time of 5:04.17 to earn his first top 20 finish of the event.

The other swimmer who competed on day one of the Oberlin College invitational was sophomore Nathan Yost. Yost swam in the 200 Yard Individual Medley and although he missed qualifying for the finals, he stills et a new PR in the event. He finished 31st overall with a time of 2:12.44. It was a drop of six seconds from his previous best in the event as he continues to show growth each time, he takes the pool.
