Lock Haven, PA. - The young Wheeling University Men's Cross Country team got their final tune-up on Saturday before the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships on Saturday when they ran in the LHU Go Fast River Run. Two Cardinals broke the 28 minute mark as they got the chance to run their final 8K before the conference championships. While no PR's were ran on the day, the Cardinals got in some good work before they go against the best of the best in the MEC.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was sophomore
Izaiha Browning, who ended up placing 70th in the field with a time of 27:18.30. It wasn't a PR time for the sophomore, but he was able to get in a good run as he works on some things moving forward. He has been consistently running in the 27-26 minute range on the 8K courses this season and will look to get just a big lower to crack into the upper half of the conference. Freshman
Hunter Tomich also had a big run, cracking the 29 minute mark to finish 102nd overall at 28:33.40. He landed just outside the race's top 100 as he prepares for his first conference championship event in two weeks.
After having a PR performance in the two weeks ago, sophomore
Julius Hobbs continued his success, finishing 116th on the day. He broke the 30 minute mark for the second race in a row, running a 29:30.20. He has been consistently lowering his times over the last two races and is setting up nicely for the conference championship event rounding out the Men's team was sophomore
CJ Anderson, who set a new season-best when he ran a 31:18.10. Anderson has been battling with injuries all season long and is getting better and better with each run this season.
The Wheeling University Men's Cross Country team returns to action on Saturday, November 5th, when they head to the Mountain East Conference Championships at Oglebay Park.
