Friday's Wheeling Wrestling Quad Postponed

Wheeling, W. Va. – The Wheeling University Wrestling team has announced that Friday's Wheeling Quad has been postponed due to COVID-19 Regulations. The event will be rescheduled for later in the semester at a date to be determined.

Wheeling was set to host their first home event with fans since the 2019 season, and their first home event since February of last year when they faced West Liberty University. For many of Wheeling's young wrestlers, it was set to be there first home collegiate event in front of their home fans. Now, they will have to wait a little longer to be able to show off what they can do in front of the Wheeling fans. The Cardinals will now have to wait until next Thursday, January 13th to retake the ma, when they head to Notre Dame College for their first Mountain East Conference (MEC) dual meet of the year. Wheeling had competed in four other tournaments prior to this meet, and some if their veteran leaders led the way.

Clarouly Meca is the one leading the way, with five wins over his last three tournaments. Of those five wins, four came via pinfall as he continues to roll through the 285-pound weight class. After leading the way at the MEC Championships last season, Meca has come back and been a leader since the transition from football season. Brennon Reid and Josh Sharron have also stepped up over the last few matches in their first collegiate seasons. Sharon has picked up a win each in his last two tournaments, including picking up his first collegiate pinfall. Reid is the team leader in wins this season with eight, and went 1-2 last time out at the 42nd Midwest Classic.

The Wheeling University Wrestling team will return to action on Thursday, January 13th, when they battle Notre Dame College in MEC play.
