Wrestling Quad Will Now Feature Three Teams/One Mat

Wheeling, W. Va. - As the Wheeling Wrestling team gets ready to host the annual Wheeling Quad event on Friday, there has been an update to the schedule of events. Bluefield State will no longer be participating in the event, and will be rescheduling a dual meet against Wheeling on a date to be determined. The event will now be a tri-match, featuring Wheeling University, Glenville State, and Seton Hill University.

Because there will only be three teams at the event, there will now only be one mat with the three teams competing in back-to-back dual meets in the Wunderly Gymnasium. Wrestling will still begin at 12 pm, and there will be just one live stream as opposed to two. The live stream will cover all three dual meets and can be found at MEC.TV. The event will mark Wheeling's first contest of 2022, and the first home meet of the season for the team.

The schedule of events will change slightly as well with the transition to just one wrestling mat as opposed to two. Weigh-ins are still scheduled for 11 AM, followed by wrestling beginning at 12 PM in the performance gym. Wheeling and Seton Hill will kick off the day wrestling at 12 PM, followed by Wheeling and Glenville State taking the mat at 2 PM. The day concludes with Glenville State battling Seton Hill at 4 PM to wrap up the event.

Friday will mark Wheeling's first home event in nearly a year, with their last home dual coming against West Liberty back on February 18th, 2021. For many of Wheeling's young wrestlers, this will be their first home collegiate match, and will be a chance for them to shine in front of their home fans. Guys like Julius Hobbs (9 Wins), Brennon Reid (8 Wins), and Josh Sharron (2 Wins) will be just a couple of the guys wrestling in the Alma Grace McDonough Center for the first time in their careers.

Wrestling is set to begin at 12 PM inside the Alma Grace McDonough Center with Wheeling and Seton Hill kicking off the days festivities. You can watch the entire day's events live by clicking HERE, and for all the information you need to know about the event, visit our Tournament Central Page
