Wheeling, W. Va. - On Tuesday, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced their 2021 Scholar All-American Teams for the fall semester. The Wheeling University Men's and Women's Swimming team were each named Scholar All-American Teams for their efforts in the classroom over the fall semester. It is the first time that the teams have won the award since the revival of the program as they continue to grow both in the pool and in the classroom.
The men's team finished the fall semester with a team GPA of 3.65, while the women's team finished with a 3.01 GPA. In order to make the list, teams must post a GPA of 3.0 or higher and the Cardinals were one of three Mountain East Conference teams to be recognized. By producing a GPA over 3.30, the Wheeling Men's Swimming team now has become eligible for the Intercollegiate Coach's Association Coalition All-Sport Academic standings.
Wheeling was personally recognized by CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart for their work both in and out of the pool.
"Coach Murphy was a great hire this year and this is just another example of why these nine men and women are some of the best ambassadors that Wheeling University and the Mountain East Conference could ask for."
The Wheeling University Swimming team is coming off a big performance at West Virginia Wesleyan where they won 10 races on the day. Their two top performers were Nathan Yost and Jade Miller who each won three races. They were both named MEC Swimmers of the Week for their efforts, marking the second time that each of them has won the award. They continue to improve every time they hit the pool as they prepare for the G-MAC/MEC Championships in early February.
The Wheeling University Men's and Women's Swimming Teams will return to action on Saturday, January 29th, when they head to Fairmont State for a tri-meet with the Falcons and Alderson Broaddus.
