Youngstown, OH. – The Wheeling University Women's Track & Field team was competing in Youngstown, Ohio, for the second time this season. There was no team score on the day, several individuals set PRs on the day, but the field athletes shined the brightest in the third event of the season.
While the Cardinals had no individual champions on the day, the highest finish came in the women's pole vault by
Keala McCurry. McCurry placed fourth in the Pole Vault setting a new PR with a height of 3.50 meters. She beat her previous PR by .5 meters and got the field events started strong. She finished second among Division II athletes and third among the combination of Division II and Division III athletes. It was her second straight top-five finish in the event, as she continues to grow throughout the season. The other top 10 finisher in the field events was Tara Perry in the Women's High Jump. She finished sixth overall with a height of 1.55 meters.
Rounding out the field events for the women were a pair of Cardinals competing in jumps and throws. First up was the Women's Long Jump where Perry and teammate
Liz Salas competed. The duo finished within one spot of each other, with Salad taking 25
th (4.76 meters) and Perry taking 26
th (4.75 meters).
Kamille Graham rounded out the field events with the shot put, and set a new season-high in the event. Graham finished 25
th overall with a distance of 10.54 meters. It was a distance increase of .04/?meters from her first meet of the year as she continues to develop as a multi-talented athlete for the Cardinals.
As competition moved over to the track events, Wheeling's sprinters had a big day with a few different runners setting PRs. The day started out with a PR when senior Susan Trammel competed in the 60-meter dash. She set a PR in the event with a time of 8.07 seconds finishing 12
th overall in the event. In the very next event,
Isha Sesay made it to the finals of the 60-meter Hurdles and finished sixth overall with a time of 9.16 seconds. Trammel was back at it in the 200-meter dash competing alongside
Ka'niya McGowan. McGowan would finish 14
th with a time of 26.52 seconds, and Trammel was right behind her in 15
th with 26.62 seconds
Jenay Soumahro would round out the sprinting events in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.56.
As the day moved to the distance events, a few Cardinals made their season debuts coming off their performances during Cross Country season. Senior
Caroline Fodor completed in back-to-back events in the 800-meter and the one-mile run. She finished 17
th in the 800 (2:29.58) and 32
nd in the mile (5:31.50).
Savanaugh Anderson made her season debut in the women's 3,000-meter dash and finished top-10 in school history. She finished 21
st overall in the event, with a time of 10:56.50, setting a strong mark to build off of.
The Women's Track and Field team returns to action on Friday, January 28
th, when they head back to Youngstown State for the YSU Mid College Major.
