Wheeling, W. Va. - On Monday, the SPIRE Midwest Open scheduled for Friday, January 21st, and Saturday, January 22nd, announced that it would be canceled. As a result, the Wheeling University Track and Field team will instead head to the Youngstown State Indoor Invitational on Friday, January 21st, with the track events beginning at 11 AM followed by the Field Events at noon.
This is just one of a few changes to the 2022 Indoor Track and Field Schedule, after the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships were rescheduled. The other changes to the Track and Field schedule include the Cedarville Invite on February 5th being replaced by the Ashland Alumni Indoor Invite and the Doug Raymond Invite replacing the original dates for the MEC Championships on February 11th and 12th. The MEC Championships will now be held a week later on February 18th and 19th in Huntington, West Virginia.
The Track & Field teams are coming off a big performance at the Otterbein Snow Globe Event, where the men and women combined for seven individual champions. While there was no team score for either team, it was a chance for the field athletes to make their season debuts, while the sprinters and runners got the chance to expand upon their times from the first meet of the year back on December 3rd at Youngstown State.
The Wheeling University Track and Field teams will return to action on Friday, January 21st, when they head to the Youngstown State Indoor Invitational at 11 AM.
