Wheeling, W. Va. – The Wheeling University Men's Soccer team's Mountain East Conference (MEC) opener against Notre Dame College scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled. There will be no make-up date for this event.
The Cardinals opened their season on Saturday, September 4^th, when they hosted The University of Pitt Johnstown and racked up six goals to defeat the Mountain Cats 6-1. Freshman Daniel Skarpnes (Stord, Norway/South Videregaende Skule) and Sophomore Richard Afolayanka (Uniondale, NY./Uniondale) led the way with two goals apiece as part of a 23 shot attack for the Cardinals.
Tyler Serman (Auburndale, FL./Auburndale HS) got the start in net, and didn't face much action facing just two shots on goal and allowing one to slip through. It was a big confidence booster for the team, and got them some momentum they can use as they move into MEC play.
The Wheeling University Men's Soccer team will be back in action on Saturday when they host Alderson Broaddus at 6 PM.
