WHEELING, W. Va (Sept. 19)- Women's soccer team returns to Bishop Schmitt Field Sunday to entertain Frostburg Statw in a Mountain East Conference matchup. The men will also take on the Bobcats at the conclusion of the women's contest.
Last time out, the women dropped a close game with Fairmont State 3-2. Both offenses showed their ability early.
Wheeling scored two goals within the first five minutes of the initial whistle. Senior
Kenadee Burgoyne found the back of the net just two minutes into the contest to put the Cardinals up 1-0.
Burgoyne struck again just three minutes later to increase the Wheeling lead to 2-0. Fellow Senior
Braedynn Porter was credited with the assist.
The Cardinals would not score again however, allowing Falcon goals at the seventh, 30th, and 57th minutes to fall to Fairmont State 3-2.
The Cardinals will look to bounce back after dropping their last two games today against a 2-2 Frostburg State squad.
The Bobcats defeated Alderson Broaddus on the road Wednesday by a score of 3-0. Frostburg holds a conference record of 1-1 while Wheeling is looking for its first conference victory of the young season.
THE MATCHUP
The two opposing programs are not very familiar with each other. Frostburg State and Wheeling have clashed just thrice since the Bobcats joined the MEC in 2019.
Frostburg State took both contests in 2019 by scores of 7-0 and 5-0. Wheeling earned its first victory over FSU this past spring by a final of 2-0 at home.
