Wheeling Sweeps Millersville To Complete Atlantic Region Tournament

Wheeling, W. Va. – The Atlantic Region Crossover came to a close on Friday night as the Wheeling University Volleyball team (8-4) beat Millersville 3-0. Wheeling has managed to win 12 consecutive sets to close things out and finished with three sweeps in four games.
Wheeling's offense continued to fire on all cylinders right from the get-go as they jumped out to a 5-1 lead in set one. Millersville never came within four points of Wheeling's lead for the rest of the set, and Wheeling picked up a 25-21 win. Wheeling hitters had 17 kills on 44 total attempts and were once again off to a hot start. The offense was the theme of the day in game one, and it seemed to continue into the second game.
The second set started a little closer, with Wheeling holding an 8-6 lead in the early part of the set. However, Wheeling once again found their groove, going on an 8-2 run to push their lead to 18-8. The Cardinals allowed just five more points in the set and took a commanding 25-13 set two win to go up 2-0 in the match. Wheeling took advantage of nine Millersville attack errors and wee looking to close out their 12th straight set victory.
Millersville made it tough, but Wheeling did just that winning the third set 25-14 to complete the 3-0 sweep. The Marauders scored the first three points of the set, but Wheeling promptly took the lead back, making it 4-3, and never looked back knocking down 16 kills on 37 Total Attacks in the win.
Freshman Aly Finch and senior Lexi Reinert led the offensive attack with 10 and nine kills respectively to lead the offense. Senior Audrey Francis added 24 digs to her ledger while Karly Niesen had 35 assists on the day. Wheeling has now won 12 sets in a row, and the offense is having success on their home floor.
The Wheeling University Volleyball team continues their stretch of home games when they take on Ohio Dominican University on Tuesday at 6 PM.
