Cardinal rally falls short to No. 9 D&E on Senior Night

WHEELING, W.Va. (April 16) - The Wheeling University men's soccer team battled back, but came up short in a 4-2 loss to No. 9 Davis & Elkins Friday evening on Senior Night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Davis & Elkins opened up a 3-0 lead through the first 48 minutes of the match.
  • Wheeling had multiple chances to score, but were off target with shots.
  • The Cardinals finally broke through when freshman Alvaro Munoz Lopez sent a free kick into the box for Richard Afolayanka to finish and make the score 3-1 in the 57th-minute.
  • Wheeling made things very interesting in the 86th-minute when Cesar Coello collected a rebound and put it into the back of the net to make the score 3-2.
  • The Cardinals applied heavy pressure on the offensive end, which allowed Davis & Elkins to score on a counter attack in the 88th-minute to help spoil Senior Night.
