WHEELING, W.Va. (April 11) – The Cardinals were dealt a pair of losses in the second doubleheader with Fairmont State Sunday in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex.

The Wheeling University baseball team (15-8, 11-5 MEC) lost the opener 6-2, before falling 5-2 to the Falcons (8-16, 6-10 MEC) in the series finale.

Luis Dominguez (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) led the Cardinals with two hits and a run scored in the game one loss. Senior right fielder
Hayden Hizer (Paden City, W.Va./Paden City) had the lone Cardinal RBI in the game.

Wheeling trailed 1-0 in the fourth inning of game two, when senior Chris Iazetta (Clinton, N.J./IMG Academy) launched a 2-0 pitch over the left field fence to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.

Fairmont State responded with a four-run fifth inning to reclaim the lead, before holding on for the win.

Wheeling was limited to just nine hits between the two games. Iazzetta's home run was the team's lone extra-base hit in game two.

The Cardinals will travel next weekend to Maryland to take on Frostburg State for a four-game MEC North Division series starting on Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
