Wheeling drops doubleheader to Seton Hill

WHEELING, W.Va. (March 7) – The Wheeling University softball team was swept by Seton Hill in non-conference play Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED in Game 1
  • The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when Seton Hill broke through with a two-out double to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Griffins added runs in each of the next three innings to build a five-run lead.
  • The Cardinals were kept off balance throughout the game. Junior Heather Pinney (North Canton, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) delivered the team's only hit with two outs in the seventh inning.
GAME NOTES
  • Redshirt-freshman pitcher Jenee Broduer (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) was tagged with the loss. She allowed five runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts.
  • Seton Hill's Lauren Dallett struck out 10 and walked two in a one-hit effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED in Game 2
  • Seton Hill used a big inning in the fifth to secure a 12-0 run-rule win over the Cardinals in game two.
  • Wheeling had a runner in scoring position in all five innings, but were unable to break through with a run-scoring hit.
GAME NOTES
  • Pinney and redshirt-freshman Autumn Oehlstrom (Lisbon, Ohio/David Anderson) each doubled in the loss.
  • Freshman Jamie Anderson (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) was charged with the loss after yielded four runs (zero earned) on six hits with a strikeout.
UP NEXT
  • The Cardinals will play again on Lisa's Field at the I-470 Complex on Thursday, March 11 against Salem in another non-conference doubleheader.
