WHEELING, W.Va. (Feb. 6) – The Cardinals played at full-strength for the first-time this season in an 84-71 win over Davis & Elkins Saturday evening.

Jordan Reid (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) scored a team-high 23 points with five assists and five rebounds in the win. Junior guard
Brent Price (Wheeling, W.Va./Central Catholic) posted 20 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 from long range, with five rebounds in his McDonough Center debut for the Cardinals.Â

Dayne Allen (St. Catherine, Jamaica/St. Catherine) hauled in a team-high 13 rebounds.

D&E established an edge early, taking a 17-9 lead on a trey with 9:25 left in the first half. The Cardinals answered with a 14-4 spurt to take a 23-21 lead with 4:16 to play in the period, before a Price layup in the final minute helped Wheeling enjoy a 33-29 lead at halftime.

The Senators scored six-straight to start the second half and take a 35-33 lead three minutes in the period. The Cardinals countered with a trio of three pointers, including a trey by Price that made the score 46-38 and forced a D&E timeout with 14:22 remaining in the game.

D&E narrowed the gap back down to six, 56-50, with 9:17 left to play, but the Cardinals never allowed the Senators to get any closer. Wheeling had an answer for every D&E basket and led by as many as 14 points in the final nine minutes to close out a second-straight victory.

The Senators were limited to just 1-of-22 from three-point range. Wheeling converted 9-of-22 from long range.

The Cardinals committed a season-low five turnovers in the game. It was the first time all season that Wheeling finished with a single-digit turnover total.
D&E forward Breland Walton led all players with 28 points and 16 rebounds in the loss.

Wheeling will have a challenging week with games against Charleston, West Liberty and Fairmont State. The Cardinals will open the week on Monday, February 8 when they welcome Charleston to the McDonough Center at 7:30 p.m.
