Wheeling, W. Va. – Over the last few weeks, freshman Jade Miller has been on fire for the Wheeling University Swimming Team. She took home a couple of first-place finishes against Bethany two weeks ago and added three more first-place finishes this week at Salem University. The Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced their weekly awards on Tuesday, and Miller was rewarded for her efforts, being named this week's MEC Women's Swimmer of the Week.

She becomes the first female swimmers to win the award since the 2016-2017 season, as she set new PR's in all three of her races. In total, she helped the women's team secure four first-place finishes at the event spanning a total of 12 different races. For Miller, she competed in three different events, the 100-Meter Backstroke, the 200-meter backstroke, and the 100-meter Fly, setting new personal records in all three events. She beat out some of the top swimmers that Salem had to offer, and showed once again why she has been one of Wheeling's top swimmers this season.

Her day started with the 100-meter Backstroke, where she beat out five other competitors, including three of Salem's top swimmers. She set a new PR at 1:03.19, finishing 1.4% better than her previous races. Her next PR was in the 100-meter Fly, where she posted a very similar time of 1:03.45. This time, she beat out four other competitors and beat out second-place Sofia Castillo by forty-tenths of a second. She finished her day with the 200-meter Backstroke, where although she did not set a new PR, was able to finish with a time of 2:15.87. It was the most first-place finishes in a single day for Miller, earning her the award.

Miller is the second Wheeling University Swimmer to win the award this season, with Nathan Yost taking home the award two weeks ago. Overall, she is the 11^th Cardinal to win weekly honors this season, and the seventh different Cardinal to be named an athlete of the week this year. Yost won the award that last time out, winning the award two weeks ago. The Cardinals will look to continue to rack up weekly awards as the season moves on.

The Wheeling University Swimming team is back in action on Thursday when they travel to the Oberlin College Invitational, spanning three days.
