Wheeling, W. Va. – On Tuesday, the Mountain East Confernce (MEC) released their annual Football All-MEC selections. In total, the Wheeling Football team had nine honorees on this year's list, and four of those are between the first and second team honorees. Those four honorees are running back
Sy Alli IV (First-Team),
Rich White III (First-Team),
Cade Raudebaugh (Second-Team), and
Josiah Wright (Second-Team).
Leading the group was running back
Sy Alli IV, who became the first 1,000-yard rusher in program history. He led the MEC with 1,014 yards rushing this season, and set the single-season rushing record for the program. He averaged 4.4 yards per carry and was second in the conference with 92.3 yards per game. His biggest output of the season came against West Virginia Wesleyan back on October 2
nd, when he ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns. He also helped secure Wheeling's second all-time win against West Liberty on the Homecoming Weekend. He scored the game winning touchdown in over time to secure the victory.
The second first teamer for Wheeling was
Rich White III, who made it as a defensive back. He finished the season with 36 total tackles, 32 solo tackles and four assisted, two interventions, and 16 pass break-ups. He led the MEC in Pass Break-ups this season, and finished with one forced fumble and one blocked kick. White routinely guarded the oppositions top wide receiver, and was successful more often than not. He forced a key fumble against Seton Hill in week one, and came through big in the Homecoming Game against West Liberty. He made the interception that stopped West Liberty's overtime drive, and preserved the 20-20 tie.
Wheeling had two members on the second-team list, with offensive lineman
Cade Raudebaugh and
Josiah Wright each receiving honors. Raudebaugh has earned MEC honors for the second straight season, after winning honorable mention the year before. He has been one of the Cardinals' most consistent lineman, helping to open holes for the biggest running performance in team history. Raudebaugh spent most of his time as the team's left guard and was routinely the one opening up holes for his running back to run through.
Finishing out the class of first and second teamers for the Cardinals was defensive back
Josiah Wright. Wright had a breakout year with the Cardinals, leading the team with four interceptions, including two pick sixes in back-to-back weeks. He racked up 62 tackles, 48 solo tackles and 14 assists, in his 11 games played this season. Wright's biggest game of the season came against Concord, where he had a pick six, a safety, and 10 tackles in the game. Wright became one of the key pieces to the Cardinals secondary in his sophomore season, and will look to continue to be a leader for years to come.
