Wheeling Women Earn Four Golds at Salem

Salem, W. Va. – The Wheeling University Women's Swimming team headed to Salem University on Saturday for their second consecutive dual meet. As a team, the Cardinals picked up four first-place finishes on the day but fell in the team portion of the meet 168-61.
The women were led by freshman Jade Miller, who finished with three first-place finishes on the day. She earned wins in the 100-Meter Backstroke, the 200-meter backstroke, and the 100-meter Fly. Miller's fastest of the three races was the 100-Meter Backstroke where he placed a time of 1:03.19. She followed it up with a very similar time in the 100-meter fly with a time of 1:03.45. Both times were an improvement for the freshman as she continues to stand out in her first season. Her final time was in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:15.87.
The other Cardinals' first-place finish on the day was produced by Meredith Mandal in the 200-Meter Intermediate. She finished first in the race, beating out three other swimmers with a time of 2:25.40. Manda and Miller combined for the four golds on the day, but Mandal also added a silver and a bronze on the day. She finished second in the 100-Meter Breast Stroke with a time of 1:17.10 and followed that with a third-place finish in the 200-Meter Breast Stroke with a time of 2:46.76. That would round out the placing for the women as they had three other swimmers competing on the day.

Maria Jones and Elizabeth Strange each started their day in the 50-Meter Freestyle and finished in fifth and sixth respectively with times of 29.45 and 32.80. Strange continued her day in the 100-meter freestyle and finished fourth with a time of 1:14.24. Strange was back in the pool for the 200-meter freestyle, where she placed fourth with a time of 2:42.36. Macie Williams swam in her first event of the day was in the 100-Meter Backstroke, where she placed fourth with a time of 1:08.47. It was another strong day for the Wheeling swimmers, as they continue to progress with each swim.

The Wheeling University Women's Swimming team is back in action when they swim at the Oberlin Invitational from November 18th through the 20th.
