Men's Soccer Heads to Athens to Face Concord

Wheeling W. VA- The Wheeling University Men's Soccer team (3-6, 2-5) just wrapped up one of their toughest stretches of the season taking on the top two teams in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) in their last two games. They now get set to head back on the road when they face Concord University on Sunday at 12:30 PM.
The last time the Wheeling Men's soccer team took the field they fell short to Davis & Elkins College losing 3-0. They hung with the top team in the MEC, thanks to a great effort from sophomore goalkeeper Harry Firth. Firth allowed just one goal in the first half of the game and made seven saves on the evening to keep his team in the game until the end. However, it was the Cardinal's offense that wasn't able to get anything going on the day as they took the loss.
The Cardinals came out aggressive from the jump as they got off five of the first six shots of the game, but they were not able to put the ball in the net. Although Wheeling played aggressive in the 22nd minute mark Davis & Elkins would find their way on the board as the goal came from Alex Estrada-Avila off of a corner kick. This goal gave the Senators the early 1-0 lead and forced Wheeling to play from behind the rest of the way.
The tables would turn in the second half as the Senators would be the ones that turned into the aggressors as they would get on the board once again at the 52nd minute mark. This goal would give Davis & Elkins a 2-0 lead in the second half. The Cardinals would continue to fight hard, but they were not able to slow down the Senators as the scored their third and final goal in the 83rd minute mark. Magnus Ammundsen' goal would give Davis & Elkins a 3-0 lead that they would hold on to until the final minutes of the match.
The Cardinals dropped to 2-5 in MEC play with the loss and sits in eighth place in the MEC standings. They are currently a game behind West Liberty University for the seventh spot in the standings and are a game and a half behind Alderson Broaddus for sixth place. With eight games remaining on their regular season schedule, Wheeling is hoping to battle back and finish strong as the young team continues to grow and gain experience with every game.
