Wheeling, W. Va. – The Wheeling University Women's Swimming team hosted their first home event since the 2017 season on Saturday against Bethany College. It turned out as a success for the team as they picked up a 70-21 win over the Bison in their first meet in front of the home fans.
Right from the first event of the day, the women showed that they meant business by winning the 200-yard Medley Relay. The team of
Jade Miller,
Meredith Mandal,
Macie Williams, and
Logan Fields posted a time of 2:03.58 and captured the first gold of the day. It would be the first of eight first-place finishes for the team as they completed a successful day. The relay team picked up another one of those first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay when they posted a time of 1:52.95. Manual and Macie led the Cardinals on the individual events, as each earned first-place finishes in two different races.
For Mandal, the wins came in the 100-yard freestyle, where she swam a 1:01.62, and the 100-yard Breaststroke, where she posted a time of 1:19.00. For Miller, her wins were in the 100-yard Backstroke, where she swam a 1:04.31, and the 200-yard Intermediate, where she posted a 2:19.75. The other two first-place finishes were by Macie Miller in the 100-yard Butterfly (1:06.93) and
Maria Jones in the 50-yard freestyle (28.33). It was a big day for the Wheeling Swimming program as a whole, with all these athletes seeing what it is. Like to win in front of their home fans.
