GLENVILLE, W. Va. (October 16)- Wheeling volleyball continued its winning ways Saturday afternoon, sweeping Glenville State 3-0 on the road. The Cardinals won their 13th consecutive matchup and remain unbeaten in MEC play.
The Cardinals found themselves down 8-5 early in the first set when they strung two separate runs of five straight points to go up 15-9. Wheeling just allowed six more points in the first set for a final of 25-16.
Wheeling started off hot in the second set, taking the first four points with kills from Lexi Reinert and Aly Finch and a pair of attack errors. The Cardinals also had a string of eight points that included a pair of kills from Finch and Lexi Smith and a kill from Tylah Yeomans. Wheeling took the second set 25-11.
The Cardinals showed their power in the third set, allowing just four Glenville Stats points. Wheeling started off the set with seven consecutive points and then scored eight straight halfway through the set to go up 23-3. Wheeling just allowed one more tally before claiming the sweep 25-4.
The Cardinals were led by Smith and Finch in kills, who had 12 and 10 respectively. Karly Niesen had 37 assists while Audrey Francis had 20 digs.
Wheeling will return to action on Tuesday when they welcome Charleston to the McDonough Center.
