Wheeling, W. Va. - On Saturday, October 16
th, basketball coaches from across the country will converge on Morgantown, West Virginia, for the annual Bob Huggins Coaches Clinic. It is a day where the legendary Mountaineers head men's basketball coach offers advice and tips to help programs become the best that they can be. Wheeling University will have a representative at the clinic as Head Men's Basketball Coach
Chris Richardson is set to be one of the speakers.
Richardson is in his second season as Head Men's Basketball Coach with Wheeling University and helped lead the team to the Mountain East Conference (MEC) tournament. The Cardinals made it to the quarterfinal round before falling to The University of Charleston 86-49 ending their season. With a signing class that includes six new faces this season, and a veteran roster that returns names like graduate student
Jordan Reid and senior guard Jaret Haines, the program looks to continue to climb in its second season.
At the clinic, Richardson will be presenting in the form of an open practice setting, where he will be explaining the different concepts and schemes that his team will be working on this season. He will be able to demonstrate some of these techniques using his team and will be able to answer questions that any attendee may have.
For Richardson, it is an opportunity to share some of the experience he has gained throughout his coaching career, while also learning from some of the best coaches in the business.
"We're very grateful to Coach Huggins and the Mountaineers for inviting us," Richardson said. "It will be a tremendous opportunity to represent our program and school in front of dozens of high school coaches from our recruiting footprint. Our players and coaching staff are all excited for a great day of basketball."
While Richardson will be presenting and sharing his knowledge, the clinic will also be an opportunity for the Wheeling University Men's Basketball players to get some experience of their own. After Richardson's presentation, the Cardinals will get a chance to go through drills with former USC Trojans and Toronto Raptors Head Coach Kevin O'Neill. The day will conclude with Huggins and his staff leading the Mountaineers through a preseason practice.
This is an experience that you can't put a price on for Richardson's team and is something that will help them not only grow as a team, but as individuals.
"We talk a lot in our program about being a lifelong learner," he said. "This clinic is a great opportunity for all of us to continue to learn the game, while also having the chance to share and highlight what we're all about. We're thankful, and looking forward to Saturday."
The 2021 Bob Huggins Coaches Clinic is set to be held at the WVU Basketball Practice Facility from 10 AM – 4 PM.
