Meyer tabbed MEC Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (Sept. 10) - Wheeling University volleyball junior outside hitter Cassie Meyer (Jackson Center, Ohio/Jackson Center) was named the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Offensive Player of the Week announced the league office Monday afternoon.

Meyer helped the Cardinals go 3-1 at the University of West Florida Springhill Suites Invitational in Pensacola last week. Meyer finished the event with 4.14 kills per set, 3.93 digs per set and a .232 hitting percentage.

The Jackson Center native posted a double-double with 11 kills on 32 attempts (.313 hitting percentage) and 15 digs in the team's season-opening sweep versus Florida Tech. She finished with 14 kills against No. 3 Western Washington and closed out the weekend with 20 kills (.258 hitting percentage) 20 digs, and four blocks in the team's 3-1 win over then-No. 24 West Florida.

Meyer, who was a Third-Team American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American last season, ranks 19th in Division II in kills per set after the first week of the season.

Meyer and the rest of the Cardinals will travel to Minnesota to compete in the St. Cloud State Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 13-14. The trip will include a showdown against No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth on Friday at 6:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. CT).
