GAME ONE: Concord 5, Wheeling Jesuit 0
Wheeling Jesuit gave up five runs in the first two innings and was held to three hits in the first game of the series.
Concord's Darby Fitzpatrick pitched a complete game in which she did not allow an extra base hit.
After a rocky start, freshman pitcher Madison Macy (Metamora, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) only allowed two hits and kept the Mountain Lions off the scoreboard for the last five innings.
GAME TWO: Concord 8, Wheeling Jesuit 2
Wheeling Jesuit had eight hits, but left six runners on base in the final game of the doubleheader.
Down 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cardinals mustered two runs to cut the deficit. With the bases loaded, freshman Kelsey Barron (La Salle, Mich./St. Mary Catholic Central) reached base on a fielder's choice that scored Gina Fogle (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) from third base. Taylor Hradek (Perry, Ohio/Perry) came home on a double-steal attempt with runners on the corners, but Barron was thrown out trying to advance to third to end the threat.
Concord picked up one run in both the fifth and sixth innings to bring the game to its final score.
Senior outfielder Molly Welsh (Bethel Park, Pa./OLSH) went 3-for-4 with two doubles in the loss.
Senior hurler Erin Unterbrink (Raymond, Ohio/Marysville) tossed two innings of relief in which she held the Mountain Lions to one run.
The Cardinals remain at home for another MEC doubleheader versus West Liberty on Wednesday, April 10. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
