PHILLIPI, W.Va. (April 27) – The Wheeling Jesuit University men's lacrosse team closed out the season with a tough 10-9 loss in overtime at Alderson Broaddus Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals close out the season at 1-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, 3-11 overall. Meanwhile, the Battlers wrap up the year at 2-12 overall, 1-5 in league play.
Senior
Michael Schonhiutt (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) led WJU with three goals in his final collegiate game, while freshman
Colton Abate (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Township) chipped in two in the loss.
The Cardinals trailed 3-1 with five minutes left in the first quarter, when the squad scored three of the next four goals to tie the contest up at 4-4 heading into halftime.
The two teams traded goals throughout the second half, before back-to-back goals by Abate and freshman
Patrick Coggins (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) gave the Cardinals a 9-7 lead with 4:34 left in the game.
The Battlers scored one minute later to slice the lead in half, before notching the game-tying goal with seven seconds left in regulation.
Both teams had chances in the overtime period, before AB notched the game-winning goal in the final minute on a man-up opportunity to claim the win.

PJ Campion (McLean, Va./McLean) made 13 saves in the loss.
