ASHLAND, Ohio (March 26) - The Wheeling Jesuit University baseball team dropped a non-conference game at Ashland 13-5 Tuesday afternoon.
The Cardinals fall to 4-17 overall, while the Eagles improve to 19-3 this season.
Freshman center fielder
Nick Serafino (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led the team with two hits, while right fielder
Bijan Kamalipour (Frisco, Texas/Jesuit Prep) collected two RBI in the game.
Wheeling Jesuit got onto the board first in the second inning when senior third baseman
Jeffery Patrick (Crooksville, Ohio/Crooksville) delivered a RBI-single to make the score 1-0.
Ashland posted three runs in the bottom of the second and four more in the third to jump out to a 7-1 lead. The Eagles eventually built their lead to 11-1 heading into the eighth inning, but a Kamalipour RBI ground out and a wild pitch plated two runs to make the score 11-3. Despite scoring two more runs in similar fashion in the ninth, Ashland managed to maintain the lead and secured the win.
Four pitchers took the bump for the Cardinals, including starting pitcher
Frankie Favede (St. Clairsville, Ohio/Linsly). Favede was saddled with the loss after allowing eight runs (four earned) on eight hits over four innings of work.
