Cassie Meyer (Jackson Center, Ohio/Jackson Center) and junior libero
Audrey Francis (Sidney, Ohio/Fairlawn) swept the Mountain East Conference (MEC) weekly awards announced the league Tuesday afternoon.
Meyer collected her second MEC Offensive Player of the Week award, while Francis was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Meyer hit over a .300-clip in all three matches last week to help the Cardinals sweep Notre Dame, Fairmont State, and Frostburg State. She led team in kills at Notre Dame (17) and Fairmont State (21). Her 21 kills and .613 hitting percentage vs Fairmont State were both season highs. Meyer added in 17 digs versus NDC and 16 versus Fairmont for her ninth and 10th double-doubles of the season.
Francis was named the MEC Defensive Player of the Week after posted over 20 digs in a pair of three-set matches last week. She finished with 22 in a sweep of Notre Dame early in the week and posted 21 in the team's three-set win over Frostburg State on Sunday. Francis collected 12 digs in the team's sweep of Fairmont State on Friday and was only charged with two reception errors over the course of nine sets last week.
Meyer gives the Cardinals five offensive awards winners this season. Francis has won all four of Wheeling's MEC Defensive Player of the Week awards.
Meyer, Francis and the rest of the Cardinals host Charleston tonight, Tuesday, November 5 at 6 p.m.
