HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wheeling appeared to be on its way in the first set when it established leads of 5-1, 8-2 and 11-5.
  • Glenville State made things interesting with a run of six out of eight points to pull within two at 14-12.
  • The Cardinals led 21-16, but a string of four-straight points pulled the Pioneers within one point at 21-20.
  • Wheeling managed to fend off Glenville State with four of the next six points, including a game-clinching kill by Haley Kramer, to pick up a 25-22 win.
  • The next two sets were not as close. Wheeling enjoyed a six-point cushion from the 12-6 point on and went on to collect a 25-15 win and a two-set lead.
  • The Cardinals led 11-7 in the third set when they went on a 6-2 spurt to establish a 17-9 advantage.
  • The Pioneers notched consecutive points to draw back to 17-11, but the Cardinals closed out the morning match with eight of the next nine points to take the set 25-12.
