GAME NOTES (pdf.)

WHEELING WEEK IN REVIEW: The Cardinals were shut out for the first time in program history in last week's 24-0 loss to West Virginia State. Wheeling came up empty on consecutive red zone trips to start the game and allowed a Yellow Jacket touchdown in the final minute of the second quarter to head into halftime trailing 7-0. The offense was only on the field for under eight minutes in the second half.

CONCORD WEEK IN REVIEW: Charleston picked up a 41-14 win over Concord last Thursday night. Charleston held Concord to negative-12 yards rushing on the night, and had 203 yards on the ground and another 193 through the air. The Golden Eagles also forced four turnovers on the day.

CONCORD HEAD COACH: Head Coach Paul Price is in his fourth season leading the team. He served as the defensive coordinator from 2011-15 and was a linebacker coach for the Mountain Lions from 2009-11. Price has won exactly two games in each of his three previous seasons as the head coach.

BOTTOM OF THE BARREL: Concord and Wheeling rank 10th and 11th, respectively, in both scoring offense and scoring defense. The Mountain Lions have scored a league-low 21 touchdowns, while the Cardinals have allowed a league-high 49 trips to the end zone this season.

RUN RUN RUN: Wheeling has allowed a MEC-low 187.6 passing yards per game this season, however, the Cardinals still rank last in the league in total defense at 463.5 yards per game. Wheeling has yielded 275.9 rushing yards per game. Concord ranks last in the MEC with 62.5 rushing yards per game.

PICKING UP THE PACE: After being held to under 50 yards rushing in five of the team's first six games, Wheeling starting running back Sy Alli IV has posted 50 or more yards on the ground in each of the past three games. He was just shy of the first 100-yard rushing game in program history when he toted the rock 16 times for 99 yards versus Frostburg State three weeks ago.

SACK LUNCH: Concord has allowed 36 sacks this season and have only got to opposing quarterbacks 10 times. Wheeling's defense features defensive end Brandon Munoz, who ranks third in the MEC with six solo sacks.

FLIPPING THE FIELD: Wheeling ranks second in the MEC with 33.2 net yards per punt. Sophomore punter Matthew Greenwood slots third at 37.0 yards per punt and owns the longest punt of the season when he booted a ball 70 yards last week versus West Virginia State.

OTHER PLANS: Wheeling's game versus West Virginia State last week lasted only two hours and 23 minutes of real time and was the shortest game in the MEC this season by nearly 20 minutes.

NEXT UP: The Cardinals will open the 2020 campaign with a non-conference game under the league's new flex scheduling and the addition of 12th-member UNC Pembroke. Wheeling will play 10 MEC games and one non-conference game during the 2020 season.
