GAME NOTES (pdf.)

WHEELING WEEK IN REVIEW: The Cardinals were unable to slow down No. 6 Notre Dame in a 51-13 loss in South Euclid last week. NCAA Division II leading rushing Jaleel McLaughlin rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns to lead the unbeaten Falcons to the win.

FROSTBURG STATE WEEK IN REVIEW: The Bobcats scored 28-unanswered in the first half and cruised to a 42-7 win over Charleston last Thursday night. Frostburg State forced four turnovers, ran for 144 yards and controlled the clock for over 37 minutes in the win.

FROSTBURG STATE HEAD COACH: Head Coach DeLane Fitzgerald is in his sixth season as head coach and in the program's winningest coach. The Bobcats won 31 games in their final three seasons in Division III and made NCAA Playoff appearances in 2017 and 2018. He previously was the head coach at Southern Virginia (NAIA) from 2006-13.

A-A-RON: Right after the Cardinals cut the Notre Dame lead to 14-7, corner back Aaron Finch (Atlanta, Ga./Langston Hughes) had an interception near midfield to give the ball back to the offense. He now has picks in consecutive weeks and currently leads the team and ranks third in the MEC with three interceptions this season.

FOURTH DOWN SUCCESS: Wheeling was 6-of-8 on fourth down conversions against Notre Dame last week, including a pair on the team's first scoring drive.  The conversions helped the Cardinals hold possession for 38 minutes, 18 seconds; the first time they controlled the ball for over 30 minutes in a game this season.

The team was 4-of-21 on third down tries.

RECEPTION LEADER: Wide receiver Ryan LaFollette (Woodsfield, Ohio/Monroe Central) led all players with eight receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown at Notre Dame. He currently slots sixth in Division II and second in the MEC with 7.9 receptions per game.

SLINGING IT: Quarterback Tucker Strachan (Kensington, Md./Bullis) was 24-of-45 for 173 yards with one touchdown and one interception last week. The interception was the first pick thrown by Strachan in three weeks. Strachan ranks 11th in Division II with 21.86 completions per game and 32nd with 231.0 passing yards per game

HANGOVER GAME: Wheeling will be the sixth-straight opponent for Frostburg State that is coming off of a loss to Notre Dame this season. The only opponent that did not face Notre Dame the previous week was West Virginia State in week one. West Virginia State won that game 20-17 in Frostburg, Maryland.

WHITE OUT: Wheeling corner back Rich White III (Cleveland, Ohio/Lakewood St. Edwards) ranks 19th nationally with 1.6 passes defended per game and 10th with 6.1 solo tackles per game.

SECOND MEETING: Wheeling traveled to Frostburg State last year during its exhibition season to take on the Bobcats' junior varsity team. The Cardinals claimed a 47-14 win in Maryland in that exhibition.

NEXT UP: The Cardinals will travel to take on Glenville State next Saturday, November 2 with kick-off set for noon.
