(Oct. 17) - Wheeling University will take on a ranked opponent for the first-time in program history when it travels to No. 6/7 Notre Dame (Ohio) for a Mountain East Conference (MEC) game on Saturday, October 19. Notre Dame is ranked No. 6 by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and No. 7 by D2Football.com. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.

WHEELING WEEK IN REVIEW: The Cardinals generated 14 points off of turnovers and held an opponent to under 30 points for the first time this season, but came up short in a 28-14 loss to McKendree
last week.
NOTRE DAME WEEK IN REVIEW: Running back Jaleel McLaughlin rushed for 184 yards and four touchdowns to help the Falcons hold off Charleston 63-53 last week. He also scored on a 24-yard pass to finish with five total touchdowns in the win.
NOTRE DAME HEAD COACH: Head Coach Mike Jacobs is in his fourth season as head coach and sixth overall at Notre Dame. He spent six seasons at California (Pa.) as an assistant and helped the Vulcans reach three-straight NCAA Final Four appearances from 2007-09. Jacobs is the son of the late Mike Jacobs, who was an offensive coordinator for John Cooper at Ohio State (1995-99).
QB1: Quarterback Tucker Strachan finished the game against McKendree throwing 21-of-38 for 180 yards in the loss. He ranks second in the MEC and 14th nationally with 21.5 completions per game and also ranks fifth in MEC and 29th overall with 240.7 passing yards per game.
TOP TARGET: Wide receiver Ryan LaFollette posted a season-high with 12 receptions for 70 yards at McKendree. He currently ranks second in the MEC and sixth in Division II with 7.8 receptions per game
TO THE HOUSE: Corner back Aaron Finch made program history with his 36-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter. The pick-six was the first in Wheeling history and the second defensive touchdown. Eli Young's 25-yard return on a blocked punt was the first defensive score in program history.
THROWBACK MOMENT: Wheeling used deception to score its first touchdown last week. Strachan was on the receiving end of a pass by wide receiver Jaquaun Davidson for an 11-yard touchdown. Davidson was a prolific high school quarterback and ranked as the No. 20 dual-threat quarterback by 247Sports in the class of 2016 after throwing for 1,038 yards and rushing for 1,109 as a senior.
TALL TASK: Wheeling has struggled to stop the run this season and ranks 164th out of 166 teams with 292.0 rushing yards allowed per game. Notre Dame ranks 15th in Division II with 248.5 yards per game and features the leading rushing in all of Division II in McLaughlin.
NEXT UP: The Cardinals return home on Saturday, October 26 to take on Frostburg State in a league game at Bishop Schmitt Field. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
