WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 23) - The Cardinal football team went on the road to claim a 49-14 win over the Washington & Jefferson (D-III) junior varsity team Sunday afternoon.
Freshman quarterback
Tucker Strachan finished the day 11-of-15 for 259 yards in the rout. Classmate
Tyler Sprouse also saw action and completed 6-of-8 attempts for 69 yards in relief. Freshman
Tristan Ballard led all pass catchers with four receptions for 42 yards.
On the ground, freshman running back
Cam'Ron McClain posted team highs of eight carries for 75 yards, while freshman
Sy Alli IV added 39 yards on seven carries.
The Cardinal defense continued its impressive start. The unit collected 10 tackles for loss, including seven sacks, in the win. Freshman linebacker
Ryan Gorman finished with a team-high seven tackles (five solo), while
Myck Brown, James Reese, and
Blake Rankin all recorded five tackles. Freshman defensive end
Brody Lundeen led the team with two tackles for loss, including one sack.
Washington & Jefferson's varsity team is currently 4-0 and ranked No. 13 in the latest D3Football.com Top-25 poll. The Presidents are a perennial power in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs last season.
The Cardinals return home on Sunday, September 30 when they welcome the Thiel College (D-III) junior varsity squad for a contest at Bishop Schmitt Field at 2 p.m.
