WHEELING, W.Va. (Sept. 16) - The Wheeling Jesuit University football team overwhelmed the Muskingum Junior Varsity team 52-0 Sunday afternoon at Bishop Schmitt Field.
Freshman quarterback Tucker Strachan (Kensington, Md./Bullis) finished the day 7-of-11 for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman wide receiver Kiaran Turner (Orange Park, Fla./Ridgeview) hauled in three of those passes for 41 yards.
The Cardinals were led on the ground by freshman running back Cam'Ron McClain (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg), who finished with 76 yards rushing on eight carries with two touchdowns.
After both teams traded punts to start the game, McClain punched the ball in from 26 yards out to give WJU a 6-0 lead (PAT blocked) with 6:31 left in the first quarter.
The Cardinals added a second score in the first quarter when Strachan found Ryan LaFollette (Woodsfiled, Ohio/Monroe Central) on a deep post route for a 46-yard touchdown to make the score 13-0 with 2:59 left in the first quarter.
Wheeling Jesuit put the game out of reach in the second quarter with 31-unanswered points to take a 44-0 lead into halftime. Three of the Cardinals four touchdowns in the quarter came from over 25 yards out, including a 30-yard touchdown run by freshman Sy Alli IV (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) that made the score 41-0 with 5:48 left in the second quarter.
The Cardinals added another touchdown and a safety in the second half to close out the contest.
Defensively, the Cardinals made a pair of interceptions, including a juggled ball that linebacker Dakota Kirkbride (Zanesville, Ohio/Maysville) picked off to help setup a WJU touchdown.
The Cardinals will travel to Washington, Pennsylvania next Sunday, September 23 to take on the Washington & Jefferson junior varsity squad at 2 p.m.
