WJU Volleyball finishes the University of Indianapolis Invitational 3-1

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team finished the second day of the University of Indianapolis Invitational winning both matches, completing their time at the tournament 3-1 overall. The Cardinals were able to defeat Winona State 4-1 and Wisconsin-Parkside 3-0.
 
The Cardinals' record moved to 6-2 for the season, while the Warriors fell to 2-5 and the Rangers fell to 2-6.
 
WJU took several runs during the first set against the Warriors, helping them win 24-19. Haley Kramer recorded six kills while Allonda Watkins added three of her own. Winona State rallied back to win the second set 25-21, but Breanna Kramer recorded eight kills in the third set which helped the Cardinals win 25-22. Using the momentum from set three, Wheeling Jesuit ended set four 25-18 which ended the match 3-1.
 
Haley Kramer and Breanna Kramer came away with double-digit kills. Stephanie Sylvester recorded 46 assists during the match while Audrey Francis and Makenna Babb ended with 30 and 20 digs, respectively. Jenna Karl and Cassie Meyer added to the team's total number of digs with 14 and 13.
 
The Cardinals swept the second match of the day 3-0. WJU was on a role, scoring nine points in a row taking them up 23-6 during the first set. The Rangers quickly fell against the Cardinals attack 25-7. The second set begun with the Cardinals going down 10-8, however Cassie Meyer added six kills while Haley Kramer added five which helped WJU come back to win 25-17. With several kills by Haley Kramer and Makenna Babb plus blocks by Stephanie Sylvester, Breanna Kramer, Abby Strait, and Allonda Watkins, the Cardinals were able to put away the match by winning the third set 25-20
 
Audrey Francis recorded 24 digs throughout the match, and Chase Cole added three blocks to WJU. Stephanie Sylvester stood out once again by contributing 39 assists to the team.
 
WJU will be at home next weekend to host the Atlantic Region Crossover. The team faces off against Clarion University on Friday, Sept. 7th at 3 p.m.
