Cardinals Holds Lead in Both Games, but Rams Prevail

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Cardinals improved from Friday and enjoyed the lead on Saturday. Wheeling Jesuit went out to a four-run and two-run advantages, but defending Mountain East Conference champion Shepherd turned the tables and prevailed in both contests, 11-4 and 10-2.

In the top of the second, Zach Blumling and Bobby Truelove lined back-to-back doubles for the opening two runs. Four WJU (4-24/3-17 MEC North) hitters later and Dom Davis sliced a two-run single to right field for a 4-0 lead. The Rams (21-12/16-4 MEC North) held the visitors off the board from there and scored three in the third and four in both the fourth and sixth innings for the win.

On a Davis second-inning RBI single and Tristan Grimes racing in off a fifth-frame home error, the Cardinals held a 2-0 advantage. Shepherd rebounded again with five scores in both the fifth and sixth innings for the eight-run margin of victory.

Davis turned out to be the Cardinals hitting leader with a 3 for 6, a double and three RBI. Blumling, Truelove and Jeffrey Patrick doubled and singled. Matt Angelini chipped in a double and Grimes a pair of singles.

WJU returns home for its next MEC North four-game series next Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22, against Notre Dame College. Both days start at 1 p.m.
