Edinboro Nets Final Five Goals, Spoils Match for WJU

EDINBORO, Pa. – After snow delayed the match for 26 hours, the Cardinals saw their first potential season win spoiled in the final minutes. Edinboro netted the final five goals and came from behind to overtake Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse, 11-8, Friday afternoon.

The Cardinals (0-2) ran off five goals in a row with a pair from Paige Orbell, who had a 'hat trick' in the match, for a 6-2 lead on the Scots (1-0). WJU continued to lead midway through the second half, 7-5, only to have Edinboro swing the momentum with the final five scores for the win.

Along with Orbell's three goals, Hayley Holmquist scored a goal in each half. Senior Kori Hickman assisted on three of the WJU goals and scored the team's first tally.

Lyndsay Carpenter and Megan Mangia added a goal apiece. Kate Calder and Sarah Artzer assisted on one goal.

Goalie Elizabeth Hanks saved 10 Edinboro shot attempts.

Edinboro outshot WJU by a slim 28-27 margin overall, but it had an 18-12 second-half advantage.

WJU heads north to Detroit's Beverly Hills section where it will face Northern Michigan in a neutral site match on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 25, at noon.
