WHEELING, W.Va. (Nov. 3) - The Wheeling Jesuit University football team concluded its exhibition season with a 29-6 win over Jireh Prep (N.C.) Saturday night at Bishop Schmitt Field.

The Cardinals close out their exhibition slate undefeated and will now focus their efforts on their inaugural varsity season as a full-member of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) in 2019.

Wheeling Jesuit took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter thanks to a pair of field goals by freshman Matthew Greenwood (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville).

The Cardinals finally busted into the end zone in the second quarter on a four-yard touchdown run by freshman Max Baker (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry) to make the score 13-0 with 8:45 left in the second quarter. The scoring drive was setup by an interception by freshman linebacker Ryan Gorman (Millersville, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) deep in Warriors' territory.

Wheeling Jesuit tacked on a third Greenwood field goal to push the lead to 16-0, before a four-yard touchdown reception by freshman Ryan LaFollette (Woodsfield, Ohio/Monroe Central) in the final 15 seconds of the first half helped the Cardinals take a 23-0 lead into halftime.

The Cardinals notched their final touchdown of the game on the first play of the second half. Freshman quarterback Tucker Strachan (Kensignton, Md./Bullis) drew in the Jireh Prep defense and dumped the ball off to Sy Alli IV (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy), who took the ball 74 yards for a touchdown to make the score 29-0.

Jireh Prep got onto the board later in the quarter with a two-yard touchdown run for its only points of the game. The point-after try was failed, leaving the score at 29-6.

Wheeling Jesuit will play a Red versus White inter-squad scrimmage next Saturday, November 10 to officially wrap-up the season. The scrimmage will start around 12 p.m.
