WHEELING, W.Va. (Nov. 28) – The Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball team was defeated by Notre Dame College (Ohio) 66-48 in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) matchup on Wednesday evening.
The Cardinals record drops to 3-4 overall, 1-2 in league play, while the Falcons climb to 2-1 in the MEC, 4-2 overall this season.
Junior
Khira Burton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) posted another double-digit point game, marking her fifth game with 10 points or more. Freshman forward
Alysa Edwards-Frick (Zanesville, Ohio/Tri-Valley) recorded a season-high of eight points with six rebounds in the loss.
The Cardinals led 6-4 halfway through the first quarter after a layup by junior
Lauren Lipscomb (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington North), but the Falcons went on a 7-3 run to gave them an 11-9 lead going into the second quarter.
The Falcons maintained the upper hand until sophomore
Kelsi Chapman (New Martinsville, W.Va./Magnolia) hit back-to-back threes to put the Cardinals up 17-13 with 8:09 remaining in the second quarter. Wheeling Jesuit retained the lead over the next six minutes, before Notre Dame closed the half on a 14-2 run to take a 32-24 lead.
A layup by Edwards-Frick and a jumper by Burton at the start of the third quarter brought the Cardinals within five, 33-28. Notre Dame stretched its lead, outscoring the Cardinals 14-5 to send the game into the fourth quarter with the Falcons leading 49-33.
The Falcons maintained their double-digit advantage throughout the final quarter to pick up the road win over the Wheeling Jesuit.
The Cardinals play on the road against Urbana in another MEC matchup on Saturday, December 1 at 2 p.m.
