FROSTBURG, Md. (Oct. 7) - The Wheeling Jesuit University football team went on the road for the final time this season and collected a 47-14 victory over the Frostburg State (D-III) junior varsity team Sunday afternoon.
Freshman quarterback
Tucker Strachan went 24-of-30 for 368 yards and four touchdowns in the game. Freshman wide receiver
Ryan LaFollette was the top pass-catching target with five receptions for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Classmate
Jake Keenan also had a big game with five catches for 61 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
Freshman running back
Cam'Ron McClain led the ground attack with eight carries for 41 yards and a score. The Cardinals used five different running backs on the evening and rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries as a unit.
Freshman linebacker
Ryan Gorman led the defense with 11 tackles (four solo), while defensive end
Brandon Munoz posted 2.0 tackles for loss. Defensive tackle
Myck Brown had the lone sack on the day and totaled five tackles on the evening.
Frostburg State's varsity team is currently 4-0 overall and ranked No. 5 in the most recent D3Football.com Top-25 poll. The Bobcats are coming off of a season in which they advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs, before being defeated by eventual National Champion Mount Union.
The two schools are likely to meet each other in the near future. Wheeling Jesuit will play as a varsity member of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) in 2019. Meanwhile, Frostburg State will begin its transition to NCAA Division II next season and become a member of the MEC.
The Cardinals return home on Sunday, October 14 when they welcome the Denison College (D-III) junior varsity squad for a contest at Bishop Schmitt Field at 2 p.m.
