Haywood Highsmith has signed with the Delaware Blue Coats, the NBA G League Affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers. The team recently unveiled its 2018 training camp roster and practice schedule. Training camp began Monday, October 22 at the Philadelphia 76ers Training Complex in Camden.
Highsmith was the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (CCA) National Player of the Year and earned National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) All-America First Team status. The Mountain East Conference Player of the Year and MEC Tournament MVP posted an NCAA-leading 29 double-doubles to go with a 22.0-point and 12.5-rebound averages. Highsmith became only the second WJU player to finish his career with over 1,500 points (1.952 points) and 1,000 rebounds (a Cardinal record 1,251 rebounds).
The Baltimore, Maryland native was also one of 17 invitees to take part in the Philadelphia 76ers Summer League Minicamp this past July.
The Blue Coats' training camp roster includes two players signed to two-way contracts with the 76ers (Demetrius Jackson and Shake Milton), in addition to affiliate players Matt Farrell, D.J. Hogg and Norvel Pelle who participated in 76ers training camp. The team's current roster also includes six returning players, three NBA G League Draft selections and three players added via the team's local open tryout.
The Blue Coats will open the season on Saturday, November 3 when they travel to Mississauga, Ontario, Canada to face Raptors 905 at 2 p.m.
