WHEELING, W.Va. (Oct. 14) - The Wheeling Jesuit football team shutout the Denison Big Red junior varsity squad 31-0 in a Sunday afternoon exhibition game at Bishop Schmitt Field.

The Cardinals got out to an early lead, scoring 14 points in the first quarter. Wide receiver Kiaran Turner (Orange Park, Fla./Ridgeview) caught the first touchdown, running for 30-yards after the catch, with 5:39 left in the first quarter. The second touchdown was set up by a 29-yard pass from quarterback Tucker Strachan (Kensington, Md./Bullis). Running back Cam'Ron McClain (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) punched the ball in from one-yard out to make the score 14-0 with 3:27 remaining in the first quarter.

The highlight of the second quarter was a 40-yard pass to receiver Ryan Lafollette (Woodsfield, Ohio/Monroe Central) that placed the WJU offense inside their opponent's five-yard line. Strachan connected with receiver Jake Keenan (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) to finish off the drive and go into halftime with a 21-0 lead.

Denison's defense was able to shutout an otherwise potent Wheeling Jesuit offense in a scoreless third quarter.

Running back Sy Alli (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) broke off a long run early in the fourth quarter to set up a short field goal conversion from kicker Matthew Greenwood (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) to put the Cardinals up 24-0. Tyler Browning (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) capped off the scoring with a nine-yard carry that brought the game to its final score of 31-0.

WJU's defense maintained a shutout through four quarters. Defensive end Brandon Munoz (Halethorpe, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) came up with two huge sacks and recovered a fumble. Defensive end Brody Lundeen (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) and linebacker James Reese (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) each recorded a sack to keep the pressure on Denison's quarterback.

The WJU football team plays Saint Vincent College JV next on Sunday, October 21 at Bishop Schmitt Field. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
