No. 19 Cardinal Wrestling Aims for First Wins vs. Lakers & No. 11 Mt. Cats

ERIE & JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – In two matches decided by a combined four points last year in Wheeling, the Cardinals aim to reverse the results Friday and Saturday evenings. Wheeling Jesuit grapples at Mercyhurst Friday night and travels to No. 11 Pitt-Johnstown Saturday night in dual matches. Both matches start at 7 p.m.

With a special Wesbanco Arena location, the Cardinals (5-3) fell short in the final bout as the Lakers (6-0) took away the 21-18 win on Jan. 20 last year. Trailing 18-15, WJU heavyweight Max Lacey lifted and recorded a takedown in the final moments on UPJ's DJ Sims for the 3-1 win to tie the team score at 18, but lost to the visitors on the third criteria.

WJU comes off a successful weekend as it won the Will Abele Invitational on the campus of Ursinus College last Saturday.

Friday will be the Cardinals first dual match since Jan. 4 when they went 1-2 against three Top 10 ranked opponents at the NWCA National Duals.

Mercyhurst posted a pair of dual wins last weekend with a 28-15 win at East Stroudsburg and followed it with a one-point win, 19-18, Saturday at Kutztown. Pitt-Johnstown edged a 21-17 win this week at Seton Hill.

**In the first four meetings with both teams, WJU stands at 0-4. Last year's close losses were the tightest dual match results against both the Lakers and Mt. Cats.
