Cardinals Seek Success in Tough Road Swing

ATHENS, W.Va. & WISE, Va. – A successful return to the court, the Cardinals opened 2018 with a pair of league victories. Wheeling Jesuit seeks the same success this weekend in a tough Mountain East Conference road swing.

No. 19 WJU (11-2/7-1 MEC) is set to battle upcoming Concord (8-5/5-3 MEC) on Thursday night, Jan. 11, in a 7:30 p.m. night contest. Completing their pair of contests, the Cardinals head south to play the Cavaliers (6-8/4-4 MEC) of UVa-Wise Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.

In his return, Pat Moseh led WJU to its wins last week on his way to being the MEC Player of the Week. The senior pumped in a career-high 30 points, including 21 in the second half, of the Cardinals' 90-87 overtime win at the Golden Eagles of Charleston. Moseh, then, missed a triple-double by a small margin with 15 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in the 88-70 victory over West Virginia State last Sunday.

Concord and UVa-Wise did not fare quite as well as WJU in the first weeks as both clubs dropped games at Shepherd and Fairmont State. Tommy Bolte's 38 points was not enough as the Mountain Lions fell 91-73 at the Rams of Shepherd. Fairmont State added a second Concord loss, 91-77, last Saturday.

UVa-Wise fell behind by 20 points in the first half and dropped a 91-69 decision at Fairmont State last Thursday. The Cavaliers had a much closer contest at Shepherd, but could not pull it out, 85-71.

WJU prevailed in both meetings against Concord last season, including a 95-84 win in Athens on Feb. 11. The Cardinals have won the last five matchups with the Mountain Lions.

The Cardinals look to avenge their 83-81 last-minute loss in Wise last Feb. 9. WJU was able to send the meeting in Wheeling to overtime on a last-second shot and pulled out an 88-81 win.
