WHEELING, W.Va. –
The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team is the 2017 Mountain East Conference champion! The Cardinals contained the Shepherd Rams offense and defeated the third-seeded Rams, 14-8, on their way to the programs first ever MEC title.

Junior Kori Hickman was named the tournaments Most Valuable Player for her performance in the two matches while Mary Burns, Elizabeth Hales, and Brianna Wahle earned All-Tournament team honors.

Paige Plesich struck for the first score of the afternoon at 25:19, and Ally Coggins would score a minute later, putting the Cardinals ahead by a pair of goals.

Shepherd, however, scored three unanswered goals and seemed to take control of the match for a brief stint of the action.

Plesich, however, knotted the match at three all with 19:04 on the clock and Lyndsay Carpenter and Olivia Krock scored in the next five minutes to regain the two-goal WJU lead.

At 12:24, Shepherd pulled to within a score, 5-4, when Haley Price scored, but Wheeling Jesuit would rattle off four-consecutive scores to take a 9-4 advantage. Plesich, Carpenter, Hickman, and Burns scored the goals for WJU.

Shepherd scored just before the half, but the Cardinals halftime advantage was still four, 9-5.

Wheeling Jesuit held off Shepherd in the second half, outscoring the rams five to three, clinching the MEC title.

Hickman finished with just one goal but eight assists for her match-high nine points. Plesich scored four goals while Markie Wright scored once and assisted on two others for three points.
